Thanks for reading my blog today! 

For inspiration, I borrowed some porn videos from a friend that shall remain nameless. I made this about three, maybe even four...years ago. Since doing this, I've tried to animate some more porn, but ended up feeling too creepy.

I made this years ago, inspired by a visit the city of Los Angeles. My band The Sick Lipstick played a couple shows there while on tour years ago. This drawing originally had text on it that said something like "we made it in l.a., baby".

I am in love+++++++++with a piece of furniture

First things first!
I came across this desk (called Spencer Secretary) on a blog I read regularily called Design Milk.   The furniture line is called 4-Orm and it's designed by Paul Guzzetta, who at one time was a haute couture designer for YSL.  I can't stop staring at this desk. I think 'm in love!

Today I thought I'd share another ceramics piece that I made last month.  It was a very last minute bowl I made to give to my Nana.  I didn't expect much of it, but the glazes did all sorts of mysterious and beautiful things.

My dear friend Amy L and I ventured out into the snowy suburbs to go thrifting tonight.

Amy L was on the hunt for an old radio and she thought she had a winner, until she saw noticed a pair of strange winged insects inside.  eek

We used to play together with Amy G, Denise and Jennifer in a band called Fox the Boombox.

Before we take our tree down, I thought I'd show you some ornaments I crocheted earlier in December.


I bought this weirdo dog-monster in a santa suit at a garage sale a few years ago. His other side is has open eyes and a smiling mouth.

Progress report on my triangular weaving

I've been sick and although my voice is slowly coming back, I still sound a bit like a duck.  I didn't get as much done as I intended to over the past 2 weeks, but here is what I've done with my weaving in the last couple days.


This is the first half of the weaving I'm doing with my kool-aid dyed unspun wool (you can see my earlier progress on the piece here, at the end of the post).



This is the unfinished backside of the piece, on the other side of the cardboard loom. When I take it off the loom I'll hang it so the first triangle will be on top and the backside will hang inverted underneath. (I can't think straight because of my stuffy head, I can explain better when my cold/flu is done)


Joe and I ventured out in the cold, blowing snow to see the Fantastic Mr. Fox this afternoon.

This was a sort of insignificant scene in the film, but I loved the lighting and the cool togetherness of the wifey fox.

My geometric teapot

I started hand-building ceramics last year while taking a course at Toronto's Central Tech Adult program.  I can't begin to tell you how much I love creating actual objects with my hands as opposed to working digitally. I have realized that I need something this hands-on to balance out the digital work that I'd pretty much abandoned over the past few years. 

In my next few entries I'm going to be showing off some of my ceramic work.  Please let me know what you think. 

This first teapot is a continuation of a series of these sculptural pieces I made last year when I started doing ceramics:

The teapot is part of a set with matching mugs. I'll post the mugs later after I rephotograph them.  I designed the mugs using Google Sketchup, EXTREMELY easy to use 3D modeling software offered free from Google. Prior to assembling the teapot I created a paper model.  I glazed the teapot and four mugs at the same time using the same colours and dipping pattern as I used with the crystal form pictured above.  I'm going to take some new photos of the mugs displayed with the teapot and I'll post them soon.

new year's resolutions etc.

I had a wonderful night that ended with pulled pork poutine at the lakeview. 

My husband and I are sitting around today reading and stuffing our faces with pizza and chocolate.  We aren't really talking very much because he can't understand what I'm saying because I sound like a duck. I've lost my voice for the first time in my life.  We're communicating telepathically. 
I don't want this day to end.

Thoughts on 2009: I still can't believe I am now a married woman. Even more so, I can't believe I changed my last name. 

Here is my list of new year's resolutions for 2010:

1) learn how to do a cartwheel (i've already consulted earlier today with my amazing dancer friend Allison about helping me with this)

2) drink more water

3) stop hiding dirty mugs in my cupboard at work

4) buy a kiln and learn how to use it

5) eat less sugar

6) buy less bad take-out coffee

7) wear matching socks

8) continue to reduce time spent watching TV

9) fill up my sketchbook

10) read more often before going to bed

11) keep my freezer full of good food to bring for lunch

12) vacuum more often under my bed

13) to keep growing my hair for the entire year

14) try to figure out how to weave in 3 dimensions

15) learn how to follow a pattern while knitting

16) eat more vegetables

17) phone my friends and family more often

18) try out a ouija board
